5. What is the difference between wax, wax-resin, and resin thermal
transfer ribbons?
Wax ribbons usually have high wax content to them and are considered a low-end
product. The images printed with a wax ribbon tend to be acceptable for applications
where there is little or no contact with the printed image. These ribbons
are usually the least expensive and the least durable.
Wax-resin ribbons contain a mix of wax and resinous materials and are considered the middle range of ribbons. These “premium” ribbons provide better durability than wax ribbons in instances where repeated or weak chemical contact with the printed image is likely to occur.
Resin ribbons are the “super premium” or high end of the ribbon line. These ribbons have the highest percentage of resinous material, which means they can provide excellent durability as well as superior resistance to repeated physical contact and harsh chemicals and cleaning agents.
